I have written about Christmas several times, mostly about how giving love is more powerful than giving physical gifts. But today I’m seeing Christmas from a different perspective.
We are all God’s children—of that there is no doubt whatever—and during the holiday season we see proof of our innate goodness and desire to love.
Sure, there is also a loud festival of Imitation Love going on, but beneath it all, we can feel our love singing out.
Why Does Christmas Feel So Good?
The world can be so confusing and unloving most of the time, but it seems as though Christmas gives us an “excuse” to let out some of that love we normally keep to ourselves in fear of disapproval, and in response to the daily assaults we experience.
Around Christmas, we smile at each other more. We speak to each other more, even to strangers, to wish a Merry Christmas.
We give gifts for a wide variety of reasons—including obligation, guilt, and so on—but one of those reasons is a genuine affection for others.
There are many proofs that this innate desire to love is within us: the way we fawn over beloved pets, the kindness we almost uniformly bestow on infants, the tears we shed for those afflicted by disasters, and more.
We really are inherently good, and Christmas—among all the confusion of motivations for that season—is one more proof of who we are.
